Swimming sprints reached an exciting conclusion on Wednesday afternoon as both the men’s and women’s 100m freestyle finals showcased thrilling races that went down to the wire. Again, participants delivered outstanding performances as they raced towards the finish line in a display of speed and skill.
Fans erupted into cheers as the swimmers touched the wall within milliseconds of each other, setting new records in a heart-stopping finish. In addition, the crowd witnessed pure athleticism and determination at its finest, leaving everyone in awe of the incredible displays of talent in the pool.

Women’s 100m freestyle final

Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden reclaimed her title as the world’s best in the 100m freestyle by winning gold in Paris, with a time of 52.16 seconds. What’s more, she surged from fourth place at the 50m mark to clinch her second Olympic gold. Torri Huske from the United States took silver, surprising many with her performance. And then, Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong secured the bronze. Mollie O’Callaghan of Australia, the favored winner, was unable to podium.

Men’s 100m freestyle world record set for gold

At the Paris Olympics, Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle broke his own 100m freestyle world record with a time of 46.40 seconds, leaving his competitors trailing behind. Kyle Chalmers from Australia took silver, and David Popovici from Romania won the bronze. Furthermore, Pan’s strong start and incredible speed secured him the gold medal, making this his first Olympic gold after winning the world title earlier in the year. Chalmers, the Rio 2016 gold medalist, earned his second silver, while Popovici, the former world record holder, added a bronze to his prior 200m freestyle gold at the same event.

Women’s 1500m freestyle with new Olympic record by Katie Ledecky

Equally important, Katie Ledecky dominated the women’s 1500m freestyle event at the 2024 Paris Games as a clear favourite, setting an Olympic record with a time of 15:30.02. She won her eighth Olympic gold medal, tying Jenny Thompson for the most by an American woman. In addition, this victory also earned her a total of 12 Olympic medals, matching other legendary U.S. swimmers. Ledecky acknowledged the honor of being compared to her role models in swimming history and expressed gratitude for their inspiration.

Women’s canoe final

Jessica Fox of Australia won the women’s canoe final at the Olympics, securing her position as the most decorated canoe slalom athlete in Olympic history with her third gold medal and sixth Olympic medal overall. Despite a touch penalty, she set a remarkable time of 99.06 seconds, surpassing her competitors and becoming the first athlete to claim gold in both C-1 and K-1 events at the same Games. Moreover, overwhelmed by the incredible atmosphere and support from the crowd, she expressed astonishment at her performance and the experience of racing amidst a sea of green and yellow flags.

However, in a dramatic turn of events at the Paris Olympics, the Chinese duo comprising Lian Junjie and Yang Hao seized the opportunity for revenge, outperforming Daley and his partner Noah Williams to clinch the coveted gold medal in the men’s synchronized 10m platform finals. This victory not only marked a significant moment of triumph for China but also signaled a shift in the power dynamics of competitive diving at the international level.
